Did you know
Things you probably didn't know about Venice Airport
Named after a legend
The airport carries an explorer's name. Marco Polo was the 13th-century merchant and traveller born in Venice, whose journeys to Asia became one of history's most famous adventures — a fitting namesake for the city's gateway to the world.
On the lagoon's edge
You can continue into Venice by boat. Marco Polo sits right beside the Venetian Lagoon. Walk a few minutes from the terminal to the docks and glide into the historic centre by Alilaguna water shuttle or private water taxi.
A record year
11.85 million passengers in 2025. Venice reached a new all-time high in 2025, comfortably above pre-pandemic levels and ranking among the busiest airports in Italy.
An intercontinental gateway
One of only three intercontinental gateways in Italy. Despite its size, Marco Polo runs long-haul flights to the USA, Canada, South Korea, China and the Gulf — intercontinental routes make up around 21% of all traffic.
A low-cost powerhouse
A focus city for four low-cost airlines. easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air and Volotea all base operations here, giving Venice one of the densest short-haul networks in northern Italy.
One smart terminal
Everything under one roof. Unlike many hubs its size, Venice runs from a single modern terminal — no shuttle trains or terminal changes, so finding your gate (and your ride home) stays simple.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Where does GoOpti drop me off at Venice Airport? +
Venice Marco Polo has a single passenger terminal, so drop-off is simple. Your GoOpti driver takes you straight to the departures area at the front of the terminal — no terminal changes or shuttle trains to worry about. Just share your flight details when you book and we'll take care of the rest.
Does Venice Airport have WiFi? +
Yes — Venice Marco Polo offers free WiFi throughout the terminal. Connect to the airport network and you're online in seconds, with coverage across check-in, departures and the gates.
What is there to do at Venice Airport? +
The terminal has a good range of shops, cafés and restaurants, plus two lounges — the Marco Polo Club and the Aspire Lounge. And because the airport sits on the lagoon, you can step outside and start your Venice journey by water taxi or Alilaguna boat straight away.
Where can I find more information about Venice Airport? +
The official Venice Airport website at veniceairport.it has live flight information, terminal maps, parking, shopping and dining guides, and all transport options to and from the city.
Is Venice Airport safe? +
Yes — Venice Marco Polo is a modern, well-run airport operated by SAVE, with a professional security and police presence, CCTV and controlled access throughout. It consistently scores well for cleanliness and passenger experience.
How long should I allow for security? +
Allow 20–30 minutes for security in normal periods. During peak summer weekends and early-morning waves it can take longer, so aim to be at the airport around two hours before a short-haul flight and three before a long-haul departure.
How do I get to and from Venice Airport? +
The most comfortable option is a GoOpti door-to-door transfer — we pick you up at your address and drop you at the terminal. Other options include the ATVO and ACTV buses to Piazzale Roma (about 20–25 minutes), the Alilaguna water shuttle to San Marco and Rialto, and private water taxis right beside the terminal.
