Wondering how you can maximize those handful of vacation days you get every year? The good news for sure is that you can take advantage of public holidays, or extend your weekends, but that's not the only way to travel more. Check out GoOpti's tips on how you can travel more with limited time off.

Take advantage of weekends

If you leave home on Friday straight after work and return on Sunday evening or even on Monday morning, you have plenty of time to tick off some things on your travel bucket list. Choose places that are easily accessible by car, public transport, or a short direct flight, plan your activities thoroughly and the perfect weekend is guaranteed.

Plan your vacation around the public holidays

Take days off before or after public holidays to maximise your time off. For example, if a public holiday lands on a Tuesday, take Monday off and score a four-day weekend.

Make the most of your overtime

Many people spend more than 40 hours a week at work. So why not add overtime hours to your holidays and extend them? See if your employer allows you to do so. You can also ask about the possibility of taking unpaid leave, especially if you are planning a longer trip. They may not give you a full week of unpaid leave, but they may give you a day or two.

Consider negotiating remote work

Remote work, which has been on the rise in recent years, can really open up travel opportunities. If all you need is a computer and an internet connection, you can be sitting in your home kitchen, or on a terrace somewhere in Thailand overlooking a paradise beach - all that matters is that you get the job done.

Extend business trips

If you’re lucky enough to travel for work, discuss with your boss about adding on a few days at the end or at the beginning of a work trip. You'll save on transport or plane tickets and gain some time to explore the destination. Of course, you can also use your business trip to stop off somewhere nearby.

If you are one of those who already diligently plan your trips, don't delay even in booking a transfer to the airport. With GoOpti, you will travel cheaper if you reserve your seat in the vehicle as soon as possible.
